Forthcoming research publication on export processing and productivity

30.03.2021

A research paper by project member Holger Görg (IfW Kiel) and Sourafel Girma (University of Nottingham) with the title „Productivity effects of processing and ordinary export market entry: A time-varying treatments approach” is forthcoming in the Review of International Economics.

Using a recently developed econometric approach and data from China, the paper estimates positive causal effects of entering into export processing and ordinary export markets on subsequent firm level productivity. Interestingly, the positive effects do not accrue similarly to all types of firms, but are strongest for those at the low to medium end of the productivity distribution.

The working paper version of the paper can be accessed here: https://www.kcg-kiel.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/KCG-Working-Paper-No.-23.pdf
